Business Model

Since its establishment in 1990, Akana Engineering has successfully completed more than 200 projects starting with the white goods, automotive industry and shifting its focus to defense in recent years and has continued to diversify while deepening its capabilities day by day.

In our 30th year; As a business model, while specializing on some of our more niche products and expanding our product range on these with preparing product families, we continue to carry out the traditional special-purpose design activities of Akana Engineering.

Both in product presentations that we have designed & qualified, and in our projects where we carry out original design activities based on requirements; The capabilities of the different units of our company are blended with many years of project management experience and high quality standards from the defense industry.

Design

Akana Engineering was established in 1990 as an engineering design office and to date, engineering and design activities have constituted the main backbone and main source of added value of our organization. The first Technopolis office was opened in 2008, it gained the status of an R&D center in 2016, and our center, which was designed and built entirely as an R&D center is planned to be opened in 2021. Currently, 35 valuable researchers work in our R&D center and they constitute approximately 30% of our total team.
Although mechanical design comes first in Akana, it is accepted that engineering is a set of interconnected disciplines and solutions are produced by approaching the systems undertaken from different disciplines, especially electronics, software, chemical and metallurgical engineering.
Mechanical Design: 30 Years of Experience, Company-specific Material Libraries, Calculation Procedures, Solid Modeling, Internal & External Training, Standardized Documentation

Electronic Hardware Integration: Hardware Design and Integration, Hardware Selection, Functional Part Tests

Automation & Software Development: Embedded Software, Machine-Human Interfaces, PLC, SCADA, Data Collection, Automation & Control

Explosives & Chemical Engineering: Experience in Working with Explosive Materials, Safety Procedures, Functional and Safety Reaction Models

Computer Aided Engineering: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Structural Analysis (FEA), Multiple Object Dynamics & Kinematic Analysis, Gear Modeling

Manufacturability Analysis: Tool and Insert Fit, Tolerance Calculations, Cost Analysis Life (MTBF) & Maintenance (MTTR) Calculations: Life Calculations on Part and System Basis, Maintenance Plan Before Failure

We are proud that our workshop, which we initially started in order to prototype our designs have turned into a large production, assembly, quality and test center today.

We carry out our production operations in three facilities: a manufacturing factory, an assembly workshop and a special assembly and test site, these sites meet the majority of our prototyping and mass production needs.

In addition, we do not prioritize piecework subcontracting at our production facilities, and we only undertake production subcontracting tasks from time to time for strategic defense industry production projects.

Quality management in Akana Engineering; We are integrated into almost all of our activities and are subject to continuous improvement in accordance with the standards we comply with, customer, supplier and employee expectations, as well as the relevant laws and natural sustainability philosophy.

Quality management is defined and applied under sub-headings in many different departments and workflows:

  • Management systems
  • Production Quality
  • Design Quality
  • Configuration Management
  • Procurement Management

The standards and subcontractor approvals that we regularly inspect and comply with within the scope of quality management, and the permits and safety certificates we have are as follows:

  • AS 9100:2018
  • ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 45001:2018
  • ISO 14001:2015
  • FNSS – Supplier Approval Certificate
  • ASELSAN – Approved Subcontractor
  • ASELSAN SST – Mechanical Design Approved Design Subcontractor
  • TAI – Silver Subcontractor
  • Ministry of National Defense Military Factories General Directorate – Approved Supplier Certificate
  • Ministry of National Defense – Production Permit Certificate
  • Ministry of National Defense – Facility Security Clearance
  • NATO – Facility Security Clearance
  • NSPA – Approved Supplier

With the concurrent engineering principle we use in our R & D projects we apply;

-Computer-aided engineering verifications during design phase
-Functional tests performed following part production

Which are integral parts of our project processes.

Ensuring the full reliability of project outputs and products, especially in the defense industry known for its hard to meet standards, Our products are designed to pass through these qualifications based on international standards.

In our special purpose designs and ready-made products, standardized environmental conditions tests, mostly MIL-STD-810G, are applied. For this purpose, our mechanical design, electronic design and quality control teams have gained experience in related subjects and fulfill the qualification requirements in our new projects.

  • Preparing military standard test procedure
  • Test apparatus development
  • Developing test scenarios in coordination of environmental tests and functional tests on system and component basis
  • Implementation of tests with test centers that provide the neccesary equipment and service

Project and product management in Akana Engineering starts with evaluating the needs of our customers together, and continues with communication throughout the product life cycle.

The planning of ELD (Integrated Logistics Support) activities, whose importance usually emerges later during the delivery of the product, is carried out early on in parallel with the design at the R&D stage.

Depending on the customer requests, the activities that we take full responsibility within the scope of ELD or that we carry out in cooperation with the user may vary; Transportation, on-site assembly, installation, commissioning, fault / performance detection, training, maintenance, repair, spare parts management and updating are the main activities we carry out.

  • Logistics Support Analysis (LDA)
  • Maintainability and Maintenance Plan
  • On-Site Installation & Training
  • Technical Support at Factory / Customer / Group
  • Spare Parts Catalog & Spare Parts Supply
  • Installation / Operation / Maintenance / Repair Manuals

Project management is applied throughout our special purpose design and ready product system projects.

In Akana, project management continues, starting from system engineering, including post-delivery maintenance and repair activities, in order to ensure customer satisfaction and sustainability throughout the product life cycle.
